Nigeria’s foremost and most celebrated music awards, The Headies is just around the corner and music lovers couldn’t be more exhilarated. The 15th edition of the iconic award ceremony is scheduled to hold in the United States, making it the first time it would be hosted off the shores of Nigeria. Clearly, its organizers are testing new waters.
On Tuesday May 24, the official nominee list of the 15th edition was released on social media and as expected, it was met with a lot of frenzy. Naturally, the announcement of these lists are usually accompanied with a myriad of talking points so it’s no surprise that music enthusiasts were buzzed about this.
One of the key talking points is, Mavin signee and superstar Ayra starr getting a total of 8 nominations, making her the youngest Nigerian female artist ever to achieve this feat, and the highest nominated female this year. The youngster had a great 2021 and these nominations are proof of this fact.
Also Nigerian musician, Wizkid is this year’s highest nominated artiste, with a total of 9 nominations. Big Wiz had arguably the best year of his career in 2021 as he broke international records with his sensational album ‘Made in Lagos’.
One of the categories in which he is nominated for is the Album of the Year category. In this category, Big Wiz is nominated alongside Brymo, Ayra starr, Made Kuti and Femi kuti, Basketmouth, and Olamide.
