Since we’ve taken it upon ourselves as the designated fashion police of Nigeria, we’ve decided to make a list of our top 5 favourite fashion icons in Nigeria. Anybody you don’t see on this list is not among the top five. Or maybe they are, but you can’t instruct us on what to do, sadly.
Asake
With the current rise of Afrobeats globally, artistes have taken their time to focus on developing their style and making statements with what their clothes say. And in 2022, Asake found a way to keep the world looking – not just through his music, but also through his style.
Ashley Okoli
Walk up to a random “Alte” kid and ask who influences their style and in some ways, there will always exist a trace of this 24-year-old stylist. Existing as a fashion lookbook, Ashley finds no limitation in fashion. Her ability to pick any piece up and find a way to make it iconic is top tier and carries from thrifted items to internationally owned brands. Incapable of being placed in a niche, Ashley exists above the categories of having an aesthetic.
Lisa Folawiyo
This 47 year-old fashion designer does not only make the best pieces but has found a way to show that designers can look just as good as their works! She doesn’t only focus on shedding light on West African pieces, but has found a way to inculcate modern tailoring and styling into her personal style as well. She is definitely the 40s “IT” girl.

Fola Francis
From casual beach bikinis, to her gorgeous dress collections, to being fitted by amazing brands in Nigeria, Fola makes this list as one of our most rated fashionista Nigerians. Queer, original and liberal would be the perfect words with which one could define her style.
TG Omori
People would prefer to call him the best director in the industry and while that is very valid, enough credit is not given to him for how everything he wears is associated with his flare of originality. With his interesting hairstyles, colourful outfits and an aura that makes every outfit look like it was made for him, TG easily makes our list of top 5.
Who else do you think should make this list?
Rachel is your favourite gen z artist baby, who spends the time she's not on set laying on her bed writing and dragging people on the internet.
