Very few music producers have a reputation as solid as that of Sarz in the African music scene. He is also very passionate about carrying on this legacy of excellent music production and it is why he runs The Sarz Academy; a training hub for budding music producers. In the just-concluded 2022 edition of TSA Masterclass, we ask Sarz five ingredients every producer should have to be as successful as he is at the art and his list has more abstracts than tangible skills.
1. Patience
As a music producer, you will be working with different creatives other than yourself and sometimes, things might get heated. The whole creative process might be draining and in order to get the best out of the artist(s)you are working with, you have to be patient with them.
2. Understand music theory
Understanding music theory as a music producer is a profitable skill. It reduces creative blocks.
3. Consistency
In the long run, whatever you are consistent with is what you get better at. If you are consistently producing music, naturally, you will get better at it.
4. Self-investment
Every music producer willing to take his craft seriously needs to invest in his or herself. Invest in your craft, invest in what you believe in, do research, and find new ways to get better results. Basically, develop yourself.
5. Understand basic music business and legalities
To navigate the music business and to avoid being cheated, you need to understand the basic do’s and don’ts as regards the legal and business aspects to your music.
