From the very viral Wakandian incident, to our very recent experience with a sister whose stylist decided to rip off every drag queen on Elon Musk’s internet, it’s been multiple cases of “what I ordered vs what I got”.
Anyway, over here at Digi headquarters, we bring you 5 Nigerian stylists you should run to if you ever decide to avoid fashion-related shame and disgrace.
Dunsin Wright
Every Oscar-nominated, BET award-winning, Rihanna-songwriting artiste needs an amazing stylist to keep them looking a 1000/10 at every given moment. Dunsin Wright is most known as the multi disciplinary creative director and stylist to Tems. She started out as a fashion PR personnel in Karla Otto, and decided to move back to Lagos to fully delve into creative direction and styling, and this is where the impeccable stylist met Tems. Moving on to create a name for herself, the exhibition producer held her first ever annual fashion exhibition titled “2121: Speculative Everything” in the middle of December 2022. It was focused on Afro-futurism and truly highlighted the need for Africans to claim back their heritage.
Morinsola Hassan Odukale
If you’re an individual that does usually have style and sense, then you’ve definitely seen some of Asake’s pictures on the internet and wondered who styled his looks. We’re pretty sure one of them was styled by the impeccable Momo Hassan Odukale, a Lagos based creative director and stylist who moved back from London. After studying at Saint Martins school in England and working as an editorial intern and stylist, she moved back to Lagos and decided to start her own creative studio which offers consulting, styling and creative directing service. Momo has worked with quite a number of important names including ASOS, Native, Wonderland the talented young stylist delves into her art through personal and collaborative projects.
Headb0rn Studios
Pith Africa’s Ojemen Cosmas and Nezodo have proven to us that new doesn’t mean rusty. They do not only focus on styling, but are also engaged with designing and costume-creation.The duo took a hold of 2022, working on several styling projects, and contributing to what we would describe as some of our favourite looks of the year as seen on some Mavin artistes, BURBERRY, Mr Eazi, Tempoe, PrettyboyDo, Rema, Fireboy, Adekunle Gold et al. We truly cannot wait to see how far this team soars.
Kenneth Ize
Having studied at the University of Applied Arts in Austria, Lagos-born Kenneth Ize is reinterpreting traditional West African fabrics and Nigerian craft. We have chosen to accord him his flowers for his “Forward Ever, Backwards Never” Fashion Show featuring what we’d be permitted to call one of the most beautiful pieces of the year so far.
Pat Adaeze
Have you been wondering where our star girl Ayra has been shopping from and who has been putting her in such amazing pieces that has the whole internet talking? Look no further – she is Pat Adaeze, fashion icon and stylist who has fully immersed herself into creating the perfect style for most of our Mavin favourites including Rema, LADIPOE and Johnny Drille, amongst a long list of other Nigerian musicians.
