Nigerian rapper and singer, Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, passed on Tuesday, 12th of September, 2023. The cause of the singer’s death became a controversy after videos which portrayed actions of violations from certain individuals who appeared to be associated with the late singer’s former record label owner, Naira Marley went viral.
Mohbad joined the Marlian Records, a record label run by fellow rapper, Naira Marley in December 2019. In 2022, he announced his departure from the label based on some allegations of unpaid royalties and assault from label boss, Naira Marley.
Recent videos which surfaced the internet after the singer’s demise points to him being assaulted by a certain ‘Samson Balogun’, a show promoter popularly known as ‘Sam Larry’ during a video shoot with fellow rapper, Zlatan Ibile. The late singer afterwards filed a police report in June 2023 against Larry with respect to this mayhem.
The Nigerian entertainment industry has been in grief as the industry mourns the loss of a talented music power house. Celebrities took to social media to call the attention of the Nigerian Police for investigation as the death of the singer seems unnatural.
Although, Naira Marley and Sam Larry have denied any affiliation with the singer’s death, the Nigerian Police Force has inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe Mohbad’s death and consequently, get justice for the singer.
