From posting freestyles on the internet, to pushing his art in every way possible and releasing singles that speak pure talent, PJ Star’s career route experienced a notable turnaround after a session at The Sarz Academy. Today, he is letting us know his favourite moments performing at the legendary New Afrika Shrine, Lagos; with tutorship from Yeni A. Kuti.
1. Meeting Aunty Yeni
If I were to count the memorable moments, I wouldn’t be able to place a number on them, but the first would be meeting Aunty Yeni Kuti. Her aura is so welcoming and she was willing to share her ideas with us every step of the way.
2. Audience’s reactions
Every time there was a reaction or sing-along from the audience while I was on stage, it brightened up my heart. And there were lots of such special moments.
3. Sarz pulling up!
When Sarz came around, not many of us were expecting him. Also seeing familiar faces, everyone that came out to support brightened up the environment.
4. Actual performances
The moments on stage – bringing out new characters, some that weren’t even rehearsed – they were amazing! It was an interesting experience communicating the music from there and connecting with the audience.
5. The band and rehearsals
Meeting the band and rehearsing with them. It was my first time playing with a band, so yes it’s one to remember.
