As 2023 runs its course, American music magazine, Billboard, popular for their music charts, released their year-end chart for 2023. Some of the categories include Top New Artists, Billboard Global 200 and Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Artists Chart amongst others. The Billboard year-end U.S Afrobeats Chart represents the aggregated metrics for afrobeats songs released from November 19, 2022 through October 21, 2023.
Grammy winning artist Burna Boy ranks number one on the Billboard’s 2023 year-end U.S Afrobeats Charts after a second place on the 2022 year-end rankings. This was made possible all thanks to his 26 entries into the Billboard chart in 2023 with hit tracks from his 2023 album ‘I Told Them’ as follows, ‘Big 7’, ‘Cheat on Me’, ‘City Boys’, ‘Sitting on Top of the World’ featuring 21 Savage, ‘Talibans II’ with Byron Messia and his Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, ‘Alone’, all ranking leading spots on the U.S Afrobeats Songs chart which is based on U.S sales and streaming activity of his releases in the year under review.
Other artists who made it to the list but ranked behind Burna Boy include Rema who made it to list for the first time owing to his record breaking single ‘Calm Down’ with Selena Gomez which recently grossed one billion streams, Tems, Libianca and Wizkid who occupy the second, third, fourth and fifth position respectively.
