DigiMillennials seems to be making an exceptional impact in the cultural landscape of Waterloo region, Ontario, Canada as only a couple years into the scene, she has just won two categories at the Waterloo Region Record Readers’ Choice Awards 2024.
DigiMillennials is an outfit that aims to promote African culture in Canada through events, media and profiling the movers and shakers of pop culture in the motherland. One of her products is the annual Afrovibes Festival, held in Kitchener-Waterloo.
The festival has since inception gathered over 10,000 people, celebrating African food, music, fashion, films et al through a week-long series of activities. Hence, it’s nomination in two categories being:
– Best Local Event
– Best Local Festival
DigiMillennials was on the 30th of October announced to have won both categories. It further solidifies the impact of the company on culture in the Waterloo region and the work they do at spotlighting black lifestyle in North America.
When asked about his “why”, the Founder of DigiMillennials and Convener of the Afrovibes Festival, Peter Pearse-Elosia said:
“We really just appreciate all that Africa is – the culture and people – and we aim to show the world the same beauty that we see. It’s exciting to see that everyone is coming onboard as well and the recognition is fulfilling. Cheers to more.”
In future, Afrovibes Festival aims to continue pushing the African narrative, but this time under Destination55, a non-profit organization with the goal of celebrating and curating Afro-centric experiences in North America.
