These Canada-Lagos Collabos Have Us In A Chokehold

Lagos city is home to Nigeria’s most important entertainment stars and according to the numbers, some of the most listened-to artistes in the world (we are talking about Drake and Justin Beiber specifically) are from Canada. A couple of times, magical tunes have been created by musicians from both regions and here is a list of some of them we are feeling at the moment.

Dollas and Cents — TOBi, Juls

If TOBi’s mouth is hurting him, it’s because of us. TOBi’s flow on this one is dangerous, so be careful. This song will grab you by the trousers and refuse to let go. Play this at your next group gathering and watch closely so you can shame your friends when you catch them all trying to Shazam it.

Attention — Omah Lay, Justin Bieber

This song is for the tortured boys and girls who are busy begging one human being somewhere to text them back — stop it! Quit acting like there is no love at home. This song has such a gentle and feel-good vibe that you’ll almost not realise when you disgrace your family and beg somebody for the worst possible thing — their attention. Almost.

Wait For You — Future, Drake, Tems

This song has that indescribable quality that makes you want to keep it loudly on replay as you drive through the city at night and watch the streetlights go by. Where you’re going in the middle of the night when you’re not a witch, we don’t know. But we didn’t ask. We’re just here to supply the music. Tems is a typical sabi girl, and her chorus makes this song feel especially electric.

Different — Nonso Amadi, Majid Jordan

These three vocalists blend so well together, they could easily be a trio. The vocals go carry you dey go where you no know, and this is probably the best thing about this mellow track. Sometimes, chill vibes are the way forward. Also at first glance, did anybody else think “Majid Jordan” was the Ghanaian actor Majid Michael, and that he had suddenly started making music?

Loved By You — Justin Bieber, Burna Boy

The way we’ve rinsed this song should be illegal. Burna’s cameo in this is brief, but effective. The ad libs he lays down for the track elevate it exponentially. The fact that the song is so catchy may distract you from the theme which is the painful realities of unrequited love. It’s for my sad boys and girls that like to dance away their sorrows. You are not alone.

Irrational — Shay Lia, Adekunle Gold

Drag your ears now if you’ve been doing cycles in a toxic relationship with one Femi somewhere and hoping for the best — it’s irrational. The chorus of this song is like that toxic relationship — repetitive, but immensely sweet and exciting such that you just need to keep going back until they show you shege. God please save us. Shay Lia’s voice is soft and addictive, like the lies of a bearded Yoruba demon; and that’s why you’ll keep going back to this track for more.
