Africa’s leading Music Business Academy teams up with the World Intellectual Property Organisation in Nigeria to host an Intellectual property workshop in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
This workshop aims to raise awareness of the importance of copyright and intellectual property education for the creative industries in Nigeria and Africa. It also aims to break down the different types of Intellectual Property and how to protect them.
The workshop will consist of 3 panels:
- Panel 1: Who owns what rights?
- Panel 2: Protecting Intellectual Property and how it affects the Nigerian economy.
- Panel 3: The role of the government in Intellectual property protection and enforcement.
Speaking about the upcoming Intellectual Property Workshop, the Programme Director of the Music Business Academy For Africa, Elizabeth Sobowale said
“We’re currently experiencing a boom in Africa’s creative industries as our creative output travels across borders. It is very important that we educate creatives on how they can protect their intellectual output so they’re able to monetise the value in the future ”
The director, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Nigeria, Oluwatobiloba Moody said
“The creative industry remains one of the most important contributors to the Nigerian economy. An understanding of intellectual property is critical to maximizing the gains derivable from this sector and translating these gains to sustainable livelihoods, recognition and rewards for creatives. We are delighted to be able to collaborate with the MBA on this initiative.”
