Popular Nigerian singer, Rema performed at the 2023 Ballon d’or ceremony which was held in Paris on Monday 30th of October,2023. Rema successfully set a pace for African music with his record smashing hit ‘Calm Down’ and which he did again as the first African artist to grace a performance at the Ballon d’or ceremony.
The 24 year old singer left the audience star struck with an electrifying live performance of his 2022 hit single, ‘Calm Down’. Calm Down was a chart topping single from his ‘Rave and Roses’ debut album released in 2022. The follow up remix which featured American singer Selena Gomez peaked at number 3 on the Billboard top 100 and also maintained the top spot on the Billboard U.S Afrobeats songs for a record breaking 57 weeks.
The Ballon d’or is an annual football award ceremony held in Paris, France. For the 2023 edition, Argentine player, Lionel Messi wins the men’s Ballon d’or for an eighth time while Spanish player, Aitana Bonmati wins the Ballon d’or Feminin (women).
