One thing that has come to be a fact in the African music scene is Pheelz’s supremacy when it comes to music creation. With well over a decade of experience in music production and songwriting, Pheelz has proven to be an equally splendid artiste with multiple bangers to his name, and the latest one is ‘Ruin’ – but this time with American R&B legend, Usher.
With afrobeats seemingly taking over global music conversations and birthing new international superstars, Usher doesn’t seem to be taking the back seat as his new album titled ‘Coming Home’ features Pheelz and Burna Boy on two of its tracks.
The album is named after the first song on the project and features Burna Boy. The interesting twist is how Pheelz puts evidence to why he has come to be regarded as an ace music producer as he has production credits on the song.
In addition to that, Pheelz is featured on one of the lead records off the LP titled ‘Ruin’, an afrobeats and amapiano infused R&B song with lyrics as sultry as its chord progression and percussion bounce. Usher describes how much trauma a former relationship left on his love life and reaffirms his decision to never return to it.
This album project goes beyond being a comeback for the legendary American singer and dancer, but goes on to emphasize two things. One being a reminder of how incredibly talented Pheelz is when it comes to both music production and delivery. The other is how much the whole world is paying so much attention to music out of Africa. Some decades ago, an African collaboration with an artiste of Usher’s caliber could only be dreamed of. Today, acts like Pheelz are producing two songs on his album and are featured on it as well.
There’s only so much more to expect from Pheelz in 2024, and an international-level upscale in his career would not be a wild prediction. We only have to wait and watch it unfold.
